Community Meal Programs
Meals are prepared on site by staff that are trained and licensed. Menus for these nutritious meals are approved prior to preparation by a Licensed Dietitian. Hot meals are prepared and provided from Monday through Friday for congregate and delivered to homebound seniors.
Frozen nutritious meals are available from Monday through Sundays or just the weekend based on the need of the older adult. Meals are prepared with frozen vegetables and the client has the option to request solid or bland meals.
Seniors can receive meals that provide at least one-third of their daily-recommended allowance of nutrients. Meals are available to seniors age 60 and older. There is no charge for receiving meals in the Older American Act program, but donations are accepted and appreciated. There is no income limit, however, services are targeted to seniors with the greatest economic, high risk facility placement or social need.
Congregate Meals
Congregate meals are group meals that are served on site. Congregate meals are offered at two locations the Madison site and Greenville site. These sites offer opportunities for seniors to meet new friends, socialize, and interact with their peers. Nutritional presentations are offered and soft music is provided during lunch. Nutritional screening, assessments and educational information is offered on site.
Home Delivered Meals
Home delivered meals provides a homebound person with a nutritious, hot, noontime meal as well as a friendly visitor. In many cases, our meals delivered by our drivers is the only visitor a client may see. Meal deliveries are a great asset to the senior and the agency. It gives them that visit of socialization, protection and assurance. The home delivered meal is sometime know as Meals on Wheels are available to elders who cannot go to the meal site because of their medical condition. Staff and volunteers deliver a well-balanced meal each weekday.
If you are unable to prepare meals due to a medical condition and would like to learn more about home delivered meals, the Resource Department will be happy to answer any questions, if you decide to make a referral, you will be asked some basic questions and complete a telephone interview.
Delivery Information
Hot and frozen meals are delivered in Madison County, which includes : Lee, Madison, Cherrylake, Sirmans, Shadygrove, Hanson, Greenville, and Pinetta. Arrangements are made for seniors to receive meals when the center is closed on holidays.
